Bone Health, It's Not Just Calcium Anymore: A recent study suggests that other nutrients such as Magnesium, Potassium, Vitamin C and Fiber are positively associated with bone health. One mineral though stands out from the crowd and that's Magnesium. Findings show that this other micronutrient is "extremely important in skeletal metabolism." Some research has shown that Magnesium deficiency may contribute to osteoporosis. Another study linked higher bone density with increased consumption of foods containing Magnesium and Potassium. Some doctors urge people to take Calcium with Magnesium because large doses of Calcium tends to cause constipation and can throw the body out of balance. Magnesium is said to compliment Calcium the same way Potassium compliments Sodium. It's the yin and yang of micronutrients. Taken together in either a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio, these minerals contribute to everything from improved sleep (if taken at night) to bone building. The sources richest in Magnesium are tofu, nuts, green leafy vegetables (so what else is new?). Many Americans are deficient. There are many Calcium / Magnesium supplements on the market. Experts suggest that the labels say "soluble so your body can absorb it better". The recommended types are Magnesium Citrate, Gluconate, and Lactate. Before taking any supplements, check with your healthcare provider. Osteoporosis Prevention Begins Early: According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, this deadly disease can largely be avoided. Prevention should begin in youth. At 14 years, according to radio personality Dr. DeSilva, a teenager has still not achieved 100% of their bone mass. This is an important time to begin a supplemental regime. Most girls of this age do not get enough Calcium in their diets. There are many available on the market but some are better absorbed than others. One of the best sources is Calcium Lactate. He recommends a powdered form that can be mixed in water. Make sure Vitamin D is present since it helps improve absorption. Many foods now are enriched with Calcium too. Exercise is another essential preventative measure. The best forms are weight bearing ones like walking, jogging, tennis, hiking, and dancing. You are more likely to reach peak bone density this way. Obviously smoking and excessive alcohol consumption must be avoided too. There seems to be no way of getting around good health. Eating right, exercise, and moderation in lifestyle. Put Your Calcium in Vinegar Say the Experts: According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, consumers should check the dissolving time of their Calcium be dropping a tablet in vinegar. If it takes more than thirty minutes to dissolve, choose a different brand. Calcium comes in many forms. The most popular and least expensive is Calcium Carbonate. However, experts say that Carbonate is difficult to absorb on an empty stomach and can cause constipation. Most doctors agree, food is the best source of Calcium, yet it isn't easy to get the recommended dose of 12-1500 mg per day. "To get this much Calcium from food" says Harvard's Online Health Publication, "you'd need to drink five 8-ounce glasses of low fat milk each day, and several full servings of yogurt, cheese or broccoli (all foods high in Calcium)." Supplementation is recommended but absorption is not always going to happen. There are choices. Many alternative forms are on the market today. Health professionals suggest citrate, lactate, and gluconate which are more easily absorbed on an empty stomach. Some of the most highly soluble sources come in the form of powders that can be mixed with water or simply buy a ready to drink variety. One word of warning, studies recommend avoiding oyster shell, dolomite, and bone meal due to high lead content. Don't be dismayed, read labels, check with your doctor and above all... Sea Cucumber Buccal Delivery for Immune Deficiency Syndrome: The composition and method for the buccal delivery of sea cucumber was described in my patent. Sea cucumber extract, approximately 5 to 35% by weight was used in the tablet formula with different sugars, artificial sweeteners and flavors. All ingredients were blended, compressed at low pressure to provide suitable tablets. This buccal tablet dissolves in the mouth allowing rapid absorption of sea cucumber (Nervonic Acid) through the mucus membrane into the systemic bloodstream. The active material of sea cucumber extract, when taken orally does not get absorbed through the stomach / intestine. The buccal tablets have been found effective to boost the immune system in HIV cases with substantial increase of CD4 count. by Yogi Shah
Introduction of Novel Ingredient (Non-caloric Fiber) for Food / Pharma Applications: After evaluation of the physical/chemical properties of the ingredient, different finished products for weight loss, fat replacement, and low calorie food segments were formulated and manufactured. These products were then presented to the market leaders of the food industry. The product comparison data for taste and other attributes such as viscosity, texture, and stability in comparison to the current market brand showed our products to be either equivalent or superior to the market standards. Customers preferred our product and it became widely acceptable as the foreign manufacturer was able to provide the product at 50% or better cost savings to the customers. Because of the scientific data and cost saving, the market for the client increased form 100 kg per month to over 200 Tons (200,000 kg) in 6 months of time. The product became the primary ingredient, replacing the market leader and started a new trend in the marekt coming up with a series of non-caloric fat-free foods in all categories such as beverages, salad dressings, snacks, forzen desserts, dairy products, baked goods, sauces, and pastas. Target properties of the product utilized were its nutrition enhancing property, its application as a processing aid as the ingredient is an inert, free-flowing powder, offering ability to absorb water. We also evaluated the product fibers binding capacity to hold the ingredients together, which made it one of the ideal compression agents for tablets. Because of our efforts, client has become a world wide manufacturer and marketer for diet ingredient products.
